Perception and Communication

Perception is the process by which an individual interprets and makes sense of sensory information from their environment, including sights, sounds, smells, tastes and touch.

Communication is the process exchanging information, ideas, thoughts or feelings between individual or groups.

Perception and Communication are closely linked aspects of human interaction. Perception involves how individuals interpret and make sense of the world around them, while communication is the process of conveying thoughts, ideas and emotions to others. Perception directly affects the way we communicate.

What is the perception in communication,

The act of selecting, organizing and interpreting information is what is referred to as perception in communication.

Think back to the first day of classes. When you look your professors, You also formed impressions about your professors based on their appearance, dress, organization, intelligence and approachability. Professors also formed impressions about their behavior, appearance, dress and organization. The impressions that both teacher and student make on the first day help set the tone for the rest of the semester.

As we go through our daily lives we perceive all sorts of people and objects. So, we often make sense of these perceptions by using previous experiences. It is help to filter and organize the information that we take in. The perception that we make of others and that others make of us affect how we communicate and act. Misunderstanding can occur when individuals perceive things differently or have different cultural or contextual interpretations.
